Because Discord just keeps proving how shit they are time after time. Then the whole age verification bullshit was the last straw for me to decide that I'm actually moving away from that shitty place. There's better ways to verify age than scanning IDs, faces and what not. Take Steam for example, they use payment method to verify age.
Yes, yes it is. But again, Steam did it in a better and not privacy invasive way.
It will eventually if everyone keep turning belly side up.
I fucking hate kids, but it's also not the governments and our job to parent your children. There's already plenty of tools that services have added for parents to use to keep their children safe online. Why should everyone else get punished for incompetent parents?
But the government also do not give a shit about children, have you seen who's running America? They're just doing it for mass surveillance, under the mantel of protecting the children.
Well to starters, it's not an American company.
Fluxer is a Swedish made one, so it falls under Swedish and EU privacy laws, which yeah, isn't top tier either.. But it's a lot better than American and UK.
Yes and no, it depends on where their servers are and all that. But Hampus (The creator) have also previously mentioned how they rather pull out of a country rather than force age verification like Discord.
But Fluxer also allows for selfhosting, though at the moment of writing this it's still difficult to do. They're also planning to have it federated so your instance can talk to others and you won't have to have billion of accounts for multiple Fluxer instances.
Unlike Discord, Fluxer is also a-okay with VPN usages.
Stoat have been standing still in development and improvements for years, the only real change I've seen since I joined it back in 2021 was the change from Revolt to Stoat.
Yes, it is getting updates, and probably more so now because of Discord and alternatives like Fluxer. But there's also this issue with Stoat being based in UK.
Valour when I tried it is nice, and the creator is very active. But it's honestly way too different in terms of design that I don't think a heavy Discord user and normies will like it.
Matrix is nice and all, but even there it's a normie issue, most users just wan't something nice and that works. Which yeah, Matrix and the different clients can do. But it's still too different from how they'd be used to.
Fluxer looks, feels and acts just like Discord. It's basically a 1:1 transfer and how it's used.
"But isn't there going to be issues with it looking the same as Discord?" No.
That's fine, the Voidcore Discord server will stay there, I just won't be active in it and post changes and what not there. I could consider adding a bridge bot, but that's a maybe.
I honestly recommend checking it out, it's really nice even though it's still early and have it's flaws.
Fun.
